Aims, contents and method of the course

Education and Culture in Context:

The theme for this course is on education and culture research and on developing the context of a research case.
What are the cultural and ideological aspects and historicity involved in a case? And how does the context of you as a researcher play a role in the research of the case?

Along with helping students develop and prepare their bachelor's theses, this course will also explore different contexts, past and present, of modern education.

The course content will include:

- how to structure a bachelor thesis and write an abstract;

- how to analyze, paraphrase, and review literature;

- how to write about the historical context and developments of an idea as well as compare and contrast existing discourses in literature across time and contexts.

Assessment and permitted materials

All written assessment will be carried out in English.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

All written assessment will be carried out in English. Other in-class activities, discussions, and readings can be in German and/or English.

- Active peer-feedback on tasks (German/English)

- Class participation (German/English)

- Literature review (English)

- Abstract for the thesis (English)

- Presentation (German/English)

- Bachelor thesis (English)

You must have a passing grade on the bachelor's thesis in order to pass the seminar.
