Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is planned to provide a general picture of equity and equality dıscussıon in special education as well as the over-representation of ethnic minority groups and immigrants in special education referrals. The course will have a holistic perspective on the topic and a specific country perspective. We will discuss when this over-representation occurs, the lack of transparency and uniformity in diagnoses and referral processes, the responsible factors for this over-representation, the challenges and limitations to form an understanding and the possible steps to take. The course will cover the context of Europe, USA, UK, African Countries and Asian Countries.

Continuous attendance, active participation, reflection, pro-seminar paper and in-class activities

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To be able to follow the seminar you need good command of English. The assignments for this pro-seminar should be handed in English.

Reading list

The course materials are compiled of readings from different articles and books which will be provided by the instructor. The literature of this pro-seminar will be in English and partly German.
