Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Firstly it will be given an overview of language development and basics about language and communication. As disorders in language, speech, voice, swallowing and communication have a great impact on the affected persons` life and learning the course deals with typical challanges in children, youths and adults. The seminar focuses on the disorders who play a relevant role in special educational needs or inclusive settings (e.g. early intervention in childhood, preschool or schoolaged field, neurological and geriatric rehabilitation). Congenital and developmental as well as acquired phenomena will be considered. Steps of intervention as prevention, diagnosis, therapy and counseling will be regarded in order to reflect how to reduce handicaps and to support professionally education and participation of the affected people.
Assessment and permitted materials
The course assessments are based on: regular and active participation in the seminar, students` presentations, individual and group assignments with feedback, scholarly paper with feedback by the lecturer.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The students are supposed to understand the basics of language and communication and get to know the background of relevant disorders in language, speech, voice, swallowing and communication. The aim is to be able to identify characteristics within case examples and recognize the special needs. The participants are supposed to learn to plan and realize appropriate supportive actions.
Examination topics
The lecturer introduces the basics of language and communication and the particular disorders within multimedia presentations. The students are dealing with selected topics and prepare presentations. During and beyond the lessons the participants will get some individual and group work tasks. The topic is going to be discussed as practically as possible, e.g. based on audio-visual materials.
