Aims, contents and method of the course

This course will cover issues related to basic directions and the current state of educational research and its implications for professionalization and professionalism in education and teaching as an occupation and career.

Assessment and permitted materials

There will be continuous evaluation. Students will write a end-term paper in addition to tiny assignments and works that will take place inside and outside the classroom.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The main aims of this course are:
To provide a view on the concept of teacher professionalization and professionalism
To show different forms of teacher professionalization and professionalism in different countries located in different situations at the center and throughout the history.
To develop a perspective on how the work and the mission of the teachers has changed in the twentieth century.
To analyze how teachers’ expertise differs from others’ expertise.
To provide how policy affects teacher professionalization and professionalism
To analyze current policy texts and educational research in relation to teacher professionalization and professionalism

Examination topics

This will be an interactive course that depends more on classroom discussion and student participation in classroom activities. We will create an open communicative classroom atmosphere where we can freely and actively share our thoughts and ideas. There will be interactive activities as well as lecturing.
