Upon completion of the seminar, you should be able to summarise independently the current state of research in a certain domain of interest within the field of psychology in writing, developing a simple research question, translating it into appropriate research operationalisation, planning and conducting a suitable scientific investigation applying the standard methods of psychological research, presenting the results in an appropriate format (if applicable), and discussing the outcomes of the investigation while considering future perspectives and limitations. In connection with this, you will acquire skills in organising scientific work, time management, presenting your own ideas, and dealing with feedback.
CONTENTS
The topics will be further developed based on the FLS.
METHODS
The Wednesday units will be based on a close exchange among students and lecturers and involve the discussion of open questions. The earlier units will focus on arising issues with study design and data collection. The later units will deal with the evaluation and interpretation of the results. In each phase, each person or group should give at least one short impulse presentation and use the time for exchange with lecturers and colleagues. As usual, there will be preliminary meetings to prepare for these dates. During the semester, in addition to the Wednesday meetings, there will be meetings on individual topics related to data collection, data preparation, data analysis, and scientific writing. With the consent of the individuals involved, all sessions will be recorded and made available to students. Thus, attendance at the Wednesday sessions and the additional appointments is encouraged but not required. Data collection will begin in the spring. Toward the end of the semester, you will receive feedback on your work from lecturers and you will provide peer feedback on one of your colleagues' preliminary bachelor thesis papers. In addition, you are encouraged to contribute to the success of this course through collaboration and taking part in interactive discussions. The deadline for the submission of the bachelor thesis (4000 to 5000 words) is 31.01.2022.
