Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course focusses on critical assessment and evaluation of scientific texts, particularly in terms of research design and hypothesis formulation, as well as in-depth work on a specific assigned project within the topical framework of this course. At the end of this course, students should be able to develop their own research questions based on the available scientific record.
The topical focus of this course is intelligence research. The respective project can serve as a basis for an empirical pre-scientific work (i.e., the bachelors thesis) in the subsequent term.

Assessment and permitted materials

oral and written contributions; specifically: active engagement and contributions within the course, 1 group discussion, 1 single presentation, contributions to discussions, peer-evaluation, course paper (= research exposé)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Acquisition of (pre-)scientific competencies and basic knowledge about historically important as well as current intelligence theories and concepts within the framework of the assigned project; acquisition of theoretical and practical competencies of work within the scientific process; critical reflection and evaluation of scientific texts as well as formulation of an adequate research exposé.

Examination topics

Acquisition of relevant basic competencies, literature search, contributions in discussions, active engagement in class, group discussion, presentation, group work, course paper.
