Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course introduces students to the basics of planning and conducting social science work, such as choice of topic, research question formulation, literature research, selection of research methods, citation, and fundamentals of scientific writing in English. The course aims to guide students in the design of a research plan/concept. Throughout the semester, students will do short assignments that will prepare them for such a task, including citing scientific literature, discussing and analyzing texts in groups, among others. Texts will address international relations, international negotiations, and other topics of interest for political and social sciences.

The method of the course consists of
• lectures,
• reading literature,
• discussing texts in class,
• doing exercises in class,
• delivering assignments,
• delivering a research plan/concept.

Assessment and permitted materials

• Attendance (you can only skip 2 sessions)
• Turn in assignments
• Assignments (40%) and Research plan/concept (40%)
• Active participation in class and group discussions (20%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirements:
• Literature and content of units
• Participation and group discussions in class
• Delivery of assignments
• Delivery of the research plan/concept

Grading:
• 100 to 90 Points: Very good (1)
• 89 to 75 Points: Good (2)
• 74 to 61 Points: Satisfactory (3)
• 60 to 50 Points: Sufficient/pass (4)
• 49 to 0 Points: Poor/fail (5)
