Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In the course, different approaches and understandings of political science will be discussed along four contemporary key concepts of politics: peace, security, democracy and development. The main focus will be put on highlighting the various research traditions of the existing sub-disciplines of political science and the current trend of their increasing overlapping and fusion, as well as on the discussion of the scientific but also political controversy around the key concepts.
Assessment and permitted materials
Written exam at the end of the semester (as the first of four options for the exam)
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
* Understanding of research basics and approaches of political science along its existing sub-disciplines;
* Discussion of different paradigmatic or epistemic approaches to research foundations of political science;
* Discussion of philosophical backgrounds of political science research;
* Understanding of the main processes in the contemporary debate in the discipline and the research system in general

Examination topics
Lecture with a particular focus on discussions/group discussions. Key papers relevant for the course will be made available on Moodle.
