Aims, contents and method of the course
The course will address the main topics and methods in comparative politics including political culture and social capital, voters and political parties, parliaments, welfare states, social learning and policy analysis.
Assessment and permitted materials
1. Active participation in seminar discussions: 20%. Attendance is mandatory.
2. Analyzing course literature in weekly reflection papers (1 page): 20%.
3. Brief presentation (10-15 minutes) of one of the course readings: 20%.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The course aims to deepen understanding of the main topics and methods in comparative politics. In particular, the focus will be on how to design and carry out research projects in comparative politics. At the end of the course, participants should have improved their competencies to design and carry out their own research projects comparing countries, political organizations and policy fields.
Examination topics
Weekly seminars involve reflexive discussions of readings, team work and data analysis. Brief reflection papers (1 page) on course readings help to analyze texts and topics. Brief presentations of the readings (10-15 minutes) launch seminar debates. Particular focus of the seminars will be on what participants can learn from the readings for designing and carrying out their own studies in comparative politics and what could be alternative ways to design research projects on these topics.
