Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The main goal of this introductory course is to introduce students to basic theoretical and empirical concepts of Comparative Politics and to practice scientific writing and reading comprehension.

Assessment and permitted materials

The final grade will be based on the following components: attendance (max. 2 absences allowed), reading assignments (20%), a mid-term exam (20%), a final exam (30%), and a term paper (30%).

The grading is based on a point-system (i.e. reading assignments = 20 points, mid-term exam = 20 points, final exam = 30 points, and a term paper = 30 points). The total points received determines the final grade:

89–100 points: 1
77–88 points: 2
65–76 points: 3
53–64 points: 4
0–52 points: 5

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

All of the above components (max. 2 absences, reading assignments, the mid-term exam, the final exam, and the term paper) must be fulfilled in order to pass the course.

Examination topics

The content of the mid-term and final exams is based on the material covered in the readings and the course sessions.
