Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The lecture will discuss various aspects of Austrian asylum politics - these include both normative issues and empirical analyses, e.g. on the role of immigration for political parties or the legal sources of international protection. In addition to empirical findings on Austrian asylum policy, central theories and concepts of migration research will be presented. Furthermore, this policy field is used to analyse political processes, structures, and interactions of the Austrian political system and the EU (e.g. responsive vs. responsible government, Austrian federalism, etc.). Each session deals with a different sub-topic. The texts will be used both for understanding the lecture and for smaller discussions. The texts covered and the content of the lecture form the basis for the assessment in the form of a test at the end of the semester.
Assessment and permitted materials
The lecture contains various elements: Inputs from the lecturer, exercises in small groups, as well as discussion rounds in the plenum. Compulsory texts must be read in preparation for each session. There will be a final examination at the end of the semester. Details will follow in the course.
