Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to introduce students to the Austrian perspective on multiple European issues that demand urgent attention and sustainable solutions and to provide the necessary tools for understanding how to analyse the national rhetoric around these challenges in a seemingly ever-changing context.
Focus will be placed on topics such as immigration/asylum, brexit, trade negotiations, monetary policy; foreign policy/neighbourhood policy, Turkey, Russia, terrorism, public sphere, single market, the future of the EU, etc.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular attendance; reading of literature and independent research; the originality and quality of presentations; active and informed participation in classroom discussions; final paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Eagerness to gain in-depth knowledge of the Austrian perspective(s) on some of the main and pressing EU topics.
Attendance and presence of mind are mandatory.
