Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The 2013 Ukrainian crisis, the Arab uprisings in 2011 or the terrorist attacks in Paris, Brussels, Istanbul or Tunis stirred the ambitious European challenge of a common framework for good governance in the Eastern and Southern Neighbourhood. By analyzing the actors and processes of policy-making in EU policies targeting the “wider Europe”, this course provide an understanding of the main challenges, practices, dynamics and balances of power behind more than 20 years of EU external action towards the countries at its Eastern and Southern borders.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation, attendance and weekly assignments (45%).

The grade will be based on the following criteria:
Regular attendance (mandatory. No more than two sessions may be missed and written tasks will compensate for the missing classes).
Active participation and written assignments to prepare the discussion ahead of every session (submission of summaries of the readings and targeted questions to start the debate).
Individual written assignment (essay)
Oral assignment (presentation or group discussions depending on the final number of students)
Submission of each assignment on time is mandatory.
Demonstrate an appropriate use of academic sources and the capacity to look for scientifically relevant sources.
