Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In the past two decades, feminist movements and theories worldwide have emerged as powerful voices, offering alternatives to the pressing crises of our time. As one of the few forces daring to imagine and build a future for all, queer-feminist theories and struggles have gained traction across diverse spheres. What drives their widespread appeal and relevance, even among those whose priorities don’t necessarily center on gender?

The Bachelor seminar examines contemporary theories and debates about the possibilities and challenges of queer-feminist struggles in various contexts. It aims to provide an interdisciplinary perspective to understand the evolving landscape of critical feminist praxis in the 21st century. In doing so, it addresses a wide range of feminist movements and discourses, including indigenous and anticolonial politics, feminist political ecology, feminist strikes, abolitionist movements, and transfeminisms. The seminar critically explores pressing global crises of our time, such as climate change and extractivism, rising far-right mobilizations, anti-gender movements, authoritarian governance, militarization, and the crisis of care and social reproduction.
Through these discussions, participants not only learn fundamental concepts and theories of 21st-century feminisms but also gain insights into how the global challenges intersect with gender strategies and counter-hegemonic practices. By engaging with the diverse lineages of new feminisms from around the world, this seminar fosters a critical and nuanced understanding of the politics of everyday life, gender strategies, and feminist theories and practices. Students will learn to critically engage with feminist theories, movements, and discourses while working with peers to analyze texts or case studies and debating transformative possibilities for the future.
