Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
The exam consists of three assignments:
1. Group presentation of the literature of a session (35%)
2. Individual presentation of an essay proposal (20%)
3. Written essay (max 5 pages) based on the proposal discussed during the individual presentation. The essay is due after the end of the course. (45%)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Emphasis is placed on the degree to which the student’s performance lives up to the described aims and the degree to which students have a command of the following general skills:
Knowledge. The course aims at enabling students to obtain and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of relations between Europe and the Middle Eastern and North African region, of current changes in the Mediterranean region and related current and contemporary research discussions.
Abilities. The students should be able to demonstrate abilities in formulating, analysing and presenting knowledge from the course, taking their point of departure in the course material.
Competences. In short written form and through oral presentations, the students should be able to summarise complex theoretical issues and present their knowledge in an eloquent and understandable way.
Attendance is mandatory, and participation can tip the scale if the final evaluation stands between two grades. Missing more than 20% of the course without written explanation will result in the course failure.
All the assignments are compulsory.
