Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Since the decade of the seventies, the states of Latin America and the Caribbean and their organizations of subregional and regional integration have made an effort to intensify their political economic and cultural relations to the countries of the Europe, Asia and Africa.
The seminar deals with the process of political and economic emanzipation of Latinameica from the USA focusing on the following key questions:
*) The external relations of the individual states of Latinamerica in particular the new leader states
*) The external relations of the old and new forms of subregional and regional integration in Latinamerica (CAN, MERCOSUR, CELAC, ALBA)
*) The old and new interventionspowers (USA, EU, China, India, Russia)

Assessment and permitted materials

*) attendance
*) preparation of a written concept and presentation handout
*) interim and final oral reports on the chosen topic
*) written paper (25-30 p.)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Independent critical analysis of specific policy fields using appropriate theoretical and methodical approaches.

Examination topics

*) Introduction to the course’s research methods and processes
*) group meetings to discuss topics and literature
*) Presentation of research proposals and progress reports on the individually or collaboratively organized studies
*) presentation and written report on a specific topic
