Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar will discuss policies and actors regulating cross-border mobility and migration in Austria. Austrian border policy will be thought of in the context of the European Area of Freedom, Security and Justice, with the Schengen Borders Code at its heart. In the course of the semester, based on literature, we will on the one hand deal with theoretical and conceptual approaches to borders and border regulation. On the other hand, we will deal with political developments in Austria since its accession to the EU in 1995. In small groups we will empirically investigate the case of Austria. Thus, in the course of semester projects, various facets of border politics will be systematically examined in relation to existing literature.
