The course is designed to provide students with understanding of the current challenges to the process of European integration on the background of historical evolution of EU institutions, single market and monetary union. It analyzes the key decisions in economic policy and respective political compromises that enabled them. Lessons from the past crises from which the EU emerged more integrated are used to formulate expectations for the outcome of the current crisis.

Assessment and permitted materials
Course assessment: active participation (15%), reading summaries (15%), student group presentation (25%), individual essay (45%).
