Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
During the semester, we will be reading the "opus magnum" of late Bourdieu, "Pascalian Meditations". This book can be considered as the third and last monograph (after "Outline of a Theory of Practice"; and "The Logic of Practice") in which Bourdieu presented a synthesis of more than 40 years of his empirical and theoretical engagements with forms of social inequality in the world. "Pascalian Meditations" contain 6 chapters, which makes this book a perfect text to be read and discussed during the 6 meetings that have been planned for the semester.

The general aim of this reading seminar is to get a better/deeper understanding of Pierre Boudieus concepts and theories by which he has contributed to the development modern social theory (habitus, social field, illusio, symbolic power and symbolic domination, theory of practice, epistemological reflexivity etc...). The primary goal of the course is, however, to enable ourselves to apply these concepts and theories in our own empirical or theoretical research.
