Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This seminar will offer insights in the dynamics of patients' organizations, notably their increasing involvement in knowledge-related activities, their role as stakeholders in the shaping of health issues they are concerned with, and their impact on issues of responsibility, solidarity, democracy and citizenship in the domain of health and medicine. It will draw on case studies in different condition-areas and national contexts recently published in STS, social movement analysis, medical anthropology and social and economic studies of biomedicine. It will examine a series of notions that have been invented for capturing the social, political and economic stakes of contemporary patients' and health activism.
