Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The use of formal models for describing and analyzing social phenomena has strongly expanded in recent years. In particular, problems of collective action and decision making, voting, and common pool resources, but also core concepts such as trust and reciprocity are studied from this perspective. In the seminar, the foundations of noncooperative game theory and the so-called "analytical approach" are presented. We will discuss: classical decision theory, static and sequential games, information and uncertainty, mixed strategies, reaction curves, repeated games, learning, and bargaining. Each unit consists of a lecture part and an exercise part in which problems are studied. The seminar is a precondition for the seminar "Experimental tests of theoretical models in economic and political sociology".
