The students
will be able to discuss the social significance of science and its boundaries and reflect the relationship between science and society
are aware of the central concepts of philosophy of science and their relevance for their own scientific practice
know the positions of philosophy of science relevant to nursing science and are able to argue their importance for the knowledge acquisition and the type of research with regard to nursing scienceCourse Description
In philosophy of science the focus is on the origin, the justification and the validity of scientific knowledge. Thinking about science in general is the basis for scientific action in particular. The findings of scientific theory provide a framework for distinguishing rationally justifiable knowledge and opinion, belief and "alternative facts". Through the presentation of methodological principles and methodological criteria of scientific action, a scientific position is established which regulates the organization of science and determines its boundaries. In recent decades, nursing science has established itself in the canon of the scientific disciplines. The great challenge for the positioning of the nursing science is the fact that it does not fit into the traditional systems of the scientific disciplines, but, on the basis of the subject of care, generates its findings on the basis of a scientific / analytical as well as a phenomenological-hermeneutic approach. The lecture presents and discusses general topics of philosophy of science related to the challenges of nursing science.Themes of the Course
