Aims, contents and method of the course

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Participants shall develop a deeper understanding for practice and policy relevance of social reporting. They conceptualize and procuce a report on the social situation and poverty dimensions of children. They will apply techniques of statistical analysis for complex data in income and social statistics. The inclusion of relevant experts and compilation of a common final report with the objective to be published, shall enable the students in the practice of contract research.
Examination topics
Micro data from the EU Survey on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC), data base for national and EU social reporting on poverty and social exclusion will be provided. The particiapants will follow a whole research process from theoretical concept to publication. Manifold empirical methods will be applied as research of literature, interviews with experts and statistical analysis. The results will be discussed with experts in social policy fields and published in a final report.

However national perspectives and regional aspects are often ignored.
Therefore the course tries to enhance understanding and perception and introduces into techniques of social reporting. Focus of the annual research labaratory is to develop a social report on child poverty in Austria.
