Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

It is clear that art historians, for example, look at historical image sources with a completely different theoretical background than we do as cultural and social anthropologists. But also within cultural and social anthropology there are different approaches and views, which were and are determined by the respective prevailing theories. This is associated with interpretive sovereignties that can be explained both by the spirit of the epochs and by the further development of our discipline.

Assessment and permitted materials

A one-hour written examination at the end of the course in which four questions are asked and all four must be answered.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The evaluation is based on a point system: 16 points are awarded. 0-8 points = insufficient; 9-10 points = sufficient; 11-12 points = satisfactory; 13-14 points = good; 15-16 points = very good.

Examination topics

In the course, articles and books on the topic will be discussed, recommended and some of them will be named as examination material. On the moodle platform set up for this lecture, pdf's of articles will be made available, as well as the slides of the Power-Point presentations used.

Reading list

A bibliography will be handed out in the first third of the course that includes 1.) introductory and general works on the topic, and 2.) advanced and detailed works. Works relevant to the exam will be specifically identified.
