Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course will present personal experiences of filmmaking in various African countries over the past two decades and present the actual approach taken. It aims to make transparent the concrete steps that lead to the realization of an audiovisual project, particularly in the context of TV productions.
Assessment and permitted materials
Active participation in the discussions of films presented (physical presence in the course is therefore required and can not be substituted by literature). Written paper on the basis of material presented and discussions during the course; length: 10 pages including literatureSeminar language: English (with the possibility of submitting a paper in German)permitted materials: all relevant film materials and literature
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
10 pages paper (in the format of an academic article) (50 %), active involvement in discussions (50 %)
Examination topics
Critical approaches to audio-visual representations, theory of ethnographic film making.
