Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims at exploring the interface of two fields of anthropological inquiry. One is the “classical” anthropological engagement with the issue of religion and the other a newly coined field of anthropological interest and expertise – the anthropology of morality.
After having introduced and discussed core concepts and approaches to religion and morality in anthropology, the participants of the course will have the opportunity to inquire into intersections of these notions and research fields along the following dimensions: social practice, embodiment, crisis/break-down, economy, politics, law, post-socialism, post-colonialism and migration.

The main didactic aim of the course is both the critical engagement with core notions and approaches as well as the “sharpening” of the comparative and conceptual gaze by a mutual exploration of religion and morality.
