Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Multiple forms of colonialism characterize this world. In particular, modern colonialism under imperialist auspices led to Europe's expansion into the world and to consequences that can still be felt today. Although the phase of decolonization seems to have been completed in many places, not only are there still colonized areas, but new ones are being added. New, old forms of colonialism as well as neo-colonialist dynamics are again increasingly shaping a world that is becoming more confrontational again, also due to these developments. In the seminar - starting from basic concepts and their definitions - old dynamics will be analyzed and their far-reaching consequences made transparent, but also new forms of a so-called neo-colonialism will be examined. In this context, the struggle for resources, imperial aspirations, hegemonic expansionist movements as well as economic and political factors play decisive roles on several levels.
