Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course provides insights into concepts, approaches and topics of gender studies. The interests and everyday experiences of the participants serve as a starting point for narrowing down a topic and examining it using gender theory concepts. The aim is to enable participants to contextualise their own observations and reflect on gender based on feminist theories of power and ideology. We will also address different theoretical perspectives on the concept of gender and current areas of tension, controversies and open questions in the field of gender theory.
Method: We will work in large and small groups. No previous knowledge is necessary. The group decides which method is best for communicating their findings and allowing the large group to engage with them. The results of the group work will be discussed in plenary and theoretically contextualised by the teacher.
