We will critically look at intersectionality approaches as potential theoretical and methodical tools for development studies and for qualitative social research as such. Intersectional approaches result from feminist theories and activism in the global South and North. They highlight that inequality is never one dimensional (e.g. power differences because of gender OR class) but that social differences interact.
The seminar also strongly focuses on participartory action research that calls for an intersectional and power sensitive approach and invites the students to conduct a participartory action research project. Methods:
Literature review and discussion
Collaborating in break-out groups
Presentations of the research proposal
Input by the lecturer
Instructing and supporting the field research
Peer-Feedback
