Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The first aim of this seminar is providing the participants the basic knowledge on the processes of social construction of identities, collective production of meaning, and othering. It also introduces the theoretical foundations, methods and analytical tools applied in the study of identity and belonging.
Second, the seminar aims to refresh what the participants have already learned in their past qualitative methodology courses about defining a research problem and formulating good research questions, reviewing the literature, and selecting a research design.
Third aim is supporting participants to develop their own research project on the topic of identity and belonging.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular attendance, active participation in class discussions, (group) presentation of selected readings, written assignment on own research design.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

¾ attendance, active participation in class discussions, (group) presentation, reading and writing assignment, written final assignment

Attendance and active participation 10% of the final grade
Reading and writing assignment 20% of the final grade
Presentation 30% of the final grade
Final paper 40% of the final grade
