Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Today narratological theories are expanding on very different fields: from telling ones own story of suffering in medical anamnesis to narratives of space architectectural design to "community making" (Goodman) in different subcultures. The course introduces different interdisciplinary approaches and provides methodological tools to grasp the genderedness of diverse narratives. The focus will be set on the performative act of narrating gender from a feminist and queer perspective.
Assessment and permitted materials
ACTIVE participation, evaluation of thesis (15-20 pages) and student's presentation (15-20 minutes per person)
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will acquire an awareness for the ubiquity of narrations in the process of "doing gender". Furthermore they will obtain a methodological basis to analyse the genderedness in the narratives of the so-called "story-telling animal" (Graham Swift).
Examination topics
Syllabus, Lecture/Introduction, discussions, student's presentations incl. group discussion, research tasks
