Assessment and permitted materials
A mandatory seminar paper reflecting on the data gathered during the course will count for 50% of the grade. The rest of the grade will be determined by the preparation for data collection, the data collection itself (with a focus on online research) and short oral presentations, as well as by participation in group activities and additional assignments throughout the semester.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
In order to receive a passing grade, you need at least 60 points. A 'sehr gut' requires at least 90 out of 100 points (a 'gut' at least 80 points, etc.). Attendance is required during the trip as well as the meetings before and after. The lecturer can invite students to a grade-relevant discussion about partial achievements. Partial achievements that are obtained by fraud or plagiarized result in the non-evaluation of the course (entry 'X' in certificate). From winter term 2019/20 the plagiarism software 'Turnitin' will be used for courses with continuous assessment.
Examination topics
There will be no exam, however the literature discussed in the seminar "Cultures of Northern Fennoscandia" as well as additional readings will form the basis for the individual projects.
Reading list
The literature discussed in the seminar "Cultures of Northern Fennoscandia" will be used as a basis, and additional literature fitting to the chosen topics will be added throughout the course.

There will be three further virtual meetings (11.5., 18.5. and 25.5.) in addition to the planned sessions to guide students through their online researches. The focus remains on the towns that we planned to visit, which are Rovaniemi (Finland), Kirkenes, Karasjok, Tromsø and Longyearbyen (Norway) and Kiruna (Sweden).
