Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims to introduce students to designing a research proposal for an MA thesis. Students taking this course should be at the initial stage of planning (though exceptions can be made in case some students have already progressed to the ethnographic research phase). By presentations, assignments, and discussions, the course aims to guide the student to the formulation of a research question, the methods needed to address it, the planning of fieldwork, and the selection of relevant theoretical frameworks.

Assessment and permitted materials

1.Regular attendance (up to 1 session may be missed)
2.Active and critical engagement in the course discussions
3.Submission of assignments in preparation for the final presentation
4.Final presentation of the research project (the presentation will last for 10 minutes during which the student will introduce the research question, methods, and theories; preparation of questions stemming from the presentation for the audience; and chairing of the discussion
4) Submission of an MA research proposal as final paper (8-10 pages)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

For a positive grade, 51 % is required

90-100 %= 1
77-89 %= 2
64-76 %= 3
51-63 %= 4
0-50 % = 5

Final papers will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
-language and style (spelling and grammar)
-thorough understanding of the selected readings
-use of the literature (choice of relevant readings, accuracy of the citations and arguments)
-clarity of arguments
-reflexivity
-critical thinking and originality

Examination topics

Presentations, assignments, active participation in discussions and final papers

Reading list

There is no literature for this course as students will be working on different research projects. However, readings might be assigned during the course
