Aims, contents and method of the course

Didactics of mathematics is the "professional science for teachers" and
therefore it is the characteristical science disciplin in student teachers' education. For this reason this lecture is fundamental in student teachers' education in which the future teachers' self conception should be reflected. This purpose includes the attitude to the subject, the analyse of methods and didactical approaches to certain themes, and also personal, social and pedagogical aspects of the stress field teachers-students-lessons. Corresponding with these points we will discuss textual problems, different methodical Ansatzes and also social and/or individual disputes. In doing so themes of secondary level one as well as such of secondary level two will be dealed with.

From the content: Goals of mathematics education, psychology of mathematics education, didactic principles, proofs and argumentation, fundamental ideas and spiral principle, representing and modeling, basic ideas, problem solving, development of subject didactics, use of technology in mathematics education, language and mathematics education, differentiation in mathematics education.

The lecture will be given online. The current chapter is made available as a script on Moodle every week. Every week there is a question and discussion session on Thursday from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. to reflect on the content. You can access it on Moodle!

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam (open book): Knowledge-based essay guided by work orders on a didactic issue with distinc references to the lecture.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Competent using of central concepts and conceptions in mathematical education;
Planning and evaluating lessons based on fundamental didactic principles;
knowledge-based reflection of goals and requirements of mathematics teaching.

Selection and degree of reflection on content from the lecture to discuss a given didactic problem.

Examination topics

Distance learning with script. This results in the examination content.
