Aims, contents and method of the course

Ability to solve problems in probability theory, ability to solve problems in statistics, knowledge in probability theory, knowledge in statistics.

Assessment and permitted materials

Tests, presentations and activities.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

It is successfully passed in case of continuous activities and presentations, and positive marks on the tests. Ticking of at least 67% of the exercises is a minimal condition for a positive mark. Main criteria for the marks are the marks on the tests and the presentations, activities may play a role to decide between two marks.

Examination topics

Elementary probability theory, combinatorics, random variables, distributions, limit theorems, confidence intervals, statistical tests.

Aims, contents and method of the course

Continuous elaboration of the assigned exercises accompanying the Course "Stochastik für LAK", by Prof. P. Raith (refer to it for the detailed account of the content).
The students are asked to present their solutions of the assigned exercises. The presentations will be commented (and possibly, if necessary, amplied or amended) by the instructor.

Assessment and permitted materials

The assessment is based on the student presence, the number of solved exercises of the proposed collection and the correctness of the presentations. Moreover, intermediate and final written tests (all in 3) will be proposed.
Materials: the exercise colection (Proseminarbeispiele)
http://www.mat.univie.ac.at/~peter/lehre/2016/ps-stolk.html

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

At least 67% of the assigned exercises should be worked out. Students should attend the same percentage of classes. At least two presentations should be made by each student.
A sufficient mean outcome in the most successful two tests will be required (with possibility of recovery under favorable conditions).

Examination topics

Exercises on the footprint of the ones discussed in class.
