Aims, contents and method of the course
Theorems and their proofs together form the heart of mathematics. In this seminar many "perfect" proofs from different areas in mathematics will be given a closer look and screened. Further information at http://www.mat.univie.ac.at/~schlosse/courses/SemLAK/SemLAK.html
Assessment and permitted materials
The quality of the lecture, regular attendance and active participation determine the grade.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students shall learn and train to give understandable well-prepared (specialized) lectures. In addition the acquired material shall be collectively discussed.

Relevant chapters of "Das Buch der Beweise" (see the literature).

Aims, contents and method of the course
Ability to solve mathematical problems, ability to present problems and solutions, knowledge in probability theory and statistics.
Assessment and permitted materials
Final exam, presentation and activities.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
It is successfully passed in case of continuous activities, a positively marked presentation and a positively marked final exam. Main criteria for the marks are the marks on the final exam and the presentation, activities may play a role to decide between two marks.
Examination topics
Elementary probability theory, random variables, distributions, limit theorems, finite Markov chains, confidence intervals, statistical tests.
