Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Standard types of PDEs (Elliptic, Parabolic, Hyperbolic), modern standard
methods: Sobolev spaces, distributions, weak solutions, Lax-Milgram-Lemma, Nonlinear PDEs, e.g. Burgers equation, dispersive equations, … methods for solutions: method of charakteris-tics, Green's functions, Fouriersynthesis,…

LV-prerequisites:

Analysis, Linear Algebra, elementary funktional analysis, basic knowledge of differential equations

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Theory of (non-classical) solutions of Partial Differential Equations (PDEs)
: (unique) existence, regularity and other qualitative properties of
solutions of standard types of linear PDEs. Including the required
functional(analytic) foundations (Sobolev-spaces etc). Further we shall deal with examples of methods to solve classes of PDEs and we shall discuss in detail applications in physics, fluid dynamics and biology...
