Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Topics: Müntz's theorem, variations of Bernstein's theorem,
L1-approximation and Jackson's theorem, orthogonal polynomials and
interpolation, Bernstein polynomials and probability, Mairhuber's
theorem, Korovkin theory, approximation with splines,
rational approximation, more on the theorems of Jackson and Bernstein
and their connection with interpolation theory

Assessment and permitted materials

To receive a grade, you have to give a lecture in the seminar.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

This seminar is devoted to topics in approximation theory and continues the course on approximation theory from 2008/09.

Examination topics

Prerequisites: analysis, knowledge of the course on approximation
theory is desirable, but not absolutely necessary.
