Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The aim of this course is to provide the fundamental notions and results of modern global analysis in a concise and rigorous way. Topics covered in the course are, among others: manifolds, vector bundles, flows, products and submanifolds, tensors and differential forms, integration, and symplectic manifolds. The material included in the course was chosen with a view to its applicability in the many fields of mathematics and mathematical physics where the theory of manifolds forms the underpinning and common language on which everything else depends.
Assessment and permitted materials
Oral exam.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The prerequisites to follow the course are a firm background in real analysis linear algebra along with basic set theoretic topology, and ordinary differential equations. For a successful exam, a thorough understanding of the definitions, results, and proofs has to be shown in detailed answers to questions.
