Aims, contents and method of the course

Gradient flows in Hilbert and metric spaces
Monotone methods, doubly nonlinear equations
Rate-independent flows, plasticity
Variational approximation, discretization

Assessment and permitted materials

Solution of weekly homework. Final written/oral test. Depending on the group sizes also written midterm exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To deepen/complete the knowledge in functional analysis and variational methods for differential systems. To confront with classical problems in nonlinear evolution equations and learn the corresponding basic results and techniques.
