Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this lecture an overview will be given about different ways to teach stochastic topics. Of course the actual Austrian "Lehrplan" in mathematics is always the starting point of our deliberations. Many concepts in stochastical education exist side by side, for instance the classical and the Bayesian approach as well as an problem solving attitude to this matter. An up to date possibility for an introduction to stochastical thinking is data based acting in order to draw some (statistical) conclusions. We can also take an applied point of view in this case. Therefore we have to treat the three big areas in stochastical education: descriptive statistics, probability theory and inference statistics.
Typical lecture with the possibility to discuss with the lecturer.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examinations; (stochastics) calculator, computer algebra system, in certain circumstances: tables of normal distribution.
Appointments from 25 June 2019 can be made by e-mail or by phone with the lecturer.
Exam dates are available until the end of June 2020.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Preparation for a competent planning of stochastical topics of school mathematics at secondary level one and two.
A performance is to assess with "Genügend", if the student mostly complies with the requirements of the colloquium in the detection and in the application of the test substance in the main areas.

Examination topics

Descriptive statistics: mean values and spreads, describing data, linear regression and correlation
Probability theory: conceptions of probability, random variable, distribution of probabilities, distribution function, density function, binomial and normal distribution, range of Dispersion
Inference statistics: testing of hypotheses, confidence interval
