If possible, the appointments are carried out as attendance appointments. If the COVID19 protection measures do not allow for the realization of face-to-face sessions, the course will be redirected to a corresponding form of distance learning.
The event dates also include practical implementation: (in the current semester) as a buddy in the UniClub (Lammgasse, 8th district), optionally in the open operation of the LernClub (weekly Tuesday OR Thursday, 4 - 8 p.m.) or as a StudyBuddy with individual learning support for a young person (weekly, flexible timing, afternoons).

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

If teachers and learners do not understand each other in mathematics lessons, this has different causes. Subject-specific learning is influenced by everyday language, classroom language, educational language and subject-specific language. Appropriate language support is necessary for all participants in mathematics lessons. The implementation of the theoretical input through work in the UniClub is an integral part of the seminar.
Theoretical basics and methodological-didactic ideas are worked on and their implementation in the classroom is carried out. Methods for language support in mathematics lessons are presented and researched, and new tasks are created and special scaffolds developed for mathematics lessons. The integrative support of learners with language difficulties in mathematics lessons is one of the aims of this event. To ensure that this also succeeds in practice, this course is in cooperation with the UniClub, a learning support project for young people between 13 and 19 years of age with refugee and migration experience (www.uniclub.at).
Theoretical input with a high proportion of practical implementation, as well as participation in the UniClub, which is an integral part of the course: (in the current semester) as a buddy in the LernClub (weekly Tuesday OR Thursday, 4 - 8 p.m.) or as a StudyBuddy with individual learning support (weekly, flexible timing, afternoons).

Assessment and permitted materials

Immanent examination character with practical implementation at the UniClub

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

100% obligatory attendance; intensive participation; implementation of the content as a buddy in the Learning Club or as a StudyBuddy with individual learning support.

Examination topics

Sensitisation of teachers in the use of everyday, educational and technical language; expansion of their own pool of methods and tasks, not only with a focus on learners with language difficulties such as German as a second language. Implementation of the contents directly as a buddy in the learning club or as a StudyBuddy in individual learning support.
