Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is an introduction to Modular Forms.

They are holomorphic functions satisfying a certain invariance property under the action of a finite index subgroup of SL2(Z).

They have remarkable arithmetical properties encoded in their Fourier coefficients. Quoting Martin Eichler, there are five fundamental operations of mathematics: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and modular forms.
