Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture is intended as a first introduction into didactics of mathematics. Didactics of mathematics is presented as a complex scientific discipline, the range of which stretches from general background considerations on mathematics education to concrete proposals for instruction. Empirical investigations are also included. The focus lies on reflecting about sense and nonsense of mathematics education. The topics considered relate to fundamental activities like genetic instruction, development of basic ideas, learning by discovering, describing and interpreting, proving, problem solving (heuristics) etc.
