Classes

Currently no class schedule is known.

Assessment and permitted materials

The programs must be uploaded via MOODLE before the lesson every second week. The programs will be evaluated and count max. 4 points each. During the lessons the students will have an ongoing consultation concerning their programs by the teaching assistant (short interviews). Attendance is compulsory. In order to successfully complete the course at least half of the issued exercises need to be positively evaluated AND half of the total points need be obtained.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In the course of the exercises, the students should learn to solve simple problems and apply basic algorithms with the help of Fortran 90 (F90)

Examination topics

Programming and presentation of the exercises in an alternating mode. Tutors are available every second lesson.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Nowadays, since computer simulations form an integral part of almost every branch of research, numerical programming is a prerequisite for the efficiency and success of such methods. In this lecture, the basics for problem analysis, development of efficient algorithms and implementation in computer codes are presented. The programming itself is done in Fortran90, a procedural, modular programming language that is widely used in the scientific community. The basics of this language are taught in the lecture and applied during the practical course.
