Aims, contents and method of the course
Students will apply the knowledge of the lecture "Experimental Physics IV: Condensed Matter“ to concrete exercises and tasks. This will not only deepen their understanding but does also serve as perfect preparation for the module exam which will also contain similar exercises. The course will have the form of a mini test and/or an open discussion (both will be available online). Expected topics are common mistakes in this weeks solutions and any other open questions.
Assessment and permitted materials
The exercises for all courses are provided via Moodle on Monday evening the week before. The first exercises will be available at 11.10.2021. Students can upload their solutions until next Monday 08:00. A submitted exercise is valid if it can be considered as a proper attempt. The valid submissions are managed in a cross list. At submission students tick the corresponding exercises, and if necessary teachers will override the points and provide a short feedback. Please do always provide a universally readable pdf along your other submission formats. Official solutions by student or teacher will be uploaded to Moodle by Monday noon. The selection process will also consider readability, favored formats can be LaTex, Matlab, Mathematica, Phyton, Jupyter. The weekly discussion will focus on the official solutions and common mistakes in the submissions.There will be four mini tests (30min) separately announced on moodle during the semester. A mini test is about a slightly modified exercise from earlier weeks. The mini tests are also available online. Only the best three of the tests will be considered in the final grading.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Every student enrolled after the 31.10 will be graded.
The grade of the course is based on the percentage x of submitted (and valid) exercises as well as the best three mini tests. The marks for the submitted exercises as well as the average grade for the best three mini tests needs to be positive for a positive final grade
You can trace your current percentage in the cross list at Moodle.
5 x < 50%
4 50% <= x < 62.5%
3 62.5% <= x < 75%
2 75% <= x < 87.5%
1 87.5% <= x
The grade for the cross list and the best 3 grades of the mini tests are averaged for the final grade.

Aims, contents and method of the course
The goal is to deepen the understanding of the subjects as well as the extension of the subjects of the lecture "Experimental Physics IV: Condensed Matter” by means of solving exercises. This exercise class is intended as a preparation for the module examination “E IV module examination Experimental Physics IV: Condensed Matter“ and is highly recommended for this purpose. There will be two trial tests, in the middle and at the end of the semester, respectively. They will be graded but will not contribute to the final grading of the PUE. The trial tests are solely intended to provide a realistic environment to assess your own problem solving skills.
Assessment and permitted materials
In order to pass the exercise course, the students must not miss more than two exercise classes. The attendance is checked with a signature list.The exercise sheets are spread via Moodle one week before the exercise class (also before the first class). The students prepare the exercises and tick the exercises on a list of crosses on Moodle (1 cross per exercise). With the tick of an exercise the students declare that they have prepared the exercise and can show their written preparatory materials and are also able to present it on the blackboard. The ticking of exercises will be possible until one hour before the beginning of the exercise class. In the session, a student, who has made a cross for the exercise, is picked by the trainer and has to solve the exercise on the blackboard. Good blackboard presentations by the students and active participation in the exercise class can improve the final grade.Please note that for the first exercise class (for the group on Monday the 14.10.2019, for the group on Tuesday the 15.10.2019 and for the groups on Wednesday the 16.10.2019) there will be exercises to prepare already!
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
All students that are still registered after the 31th of October will be graded according to their crosses. If an exercise has been crossed but not prepared or cannot be explained, then the student loses five crosses for cheating.
The final grade is determined according to the following scheme:
x<=80%: 1
70%<=x<80% 2
60%<=x<70%: 3
50%<=x<60%: 4
x<50%: 5Good blackboard presentations by the students and active participation in the exercise class can influence the final grade in a positive manner.The final grade of the PUE does not affect the grade in the module exam. The only way to full fill the requirements of the module (VO+PUE) is by passing the module exam.
