Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Knowledge about the basics of semiconductor physics and the interactions of semiconductors with photons; Practical application of semiconductor components in photovoltaics. Building on a solid basis in semiconductor physics, the lecture conveys knowledge on applications of semiconductor physics in optoelectronic components and in photovoltaics. The exam tests the understanding of the presented physical concepts and their technical application.

Semiconductors and photons: solar radiation, basic photometry, generation and recombination of charge carriers, lifetime, direct and indirect semiconductors, photodiode, photovoltaic cell, luminescence diode.
Solar modules and systems: structure, functionality, system components and their functionality, yield / cost / lifespan, building integration and system integration (sector coupling), storage, transmission network aspects.
Manufacturing processes and applications: Wet chemical fabrication, vacuum-based manufacturing, upscaling, prototype-compatible processes, metal oxides and applications in electronics, glass industry, optoelectronics.
