Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Surfaces and interfaces offer unique properties, which differ drastically from the corresponding bulk properties. Although important details can be derive from experimental approaches, like scanning tunnelling microscopy, often the combination of experiment and theory is needed for a consistent interpretation. Therefore we will discuss the theoretical concepts of surface science and their application with the help of density functional calculations.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The students should understand the basic concepts of surface science and their application to relevant aspects like adsorption phenomena or catalysis.
