Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture presents the Cauchy problem for the Einstein Equations. Necessary elements of Geometric Analysis and Differential Geometry will be covered. Based on this we introduce the interpretation of the Einstein Equations as a geometric flow and present a local existence theory of solutions. The aim of this course is to present the proof of nonlinear stability of various cosmological spacetimes rigorously.

The lecture does not necessarily require attendance of Relativity II, which can be attended in parallel. PDEs and Differential geometry are no necessary prerequisites. Students with less experience in these topics need to accept certain theorems from those fields without proofs. This will not affect their understanding of the lecture.
Additional literature will be provided in the lecture.
