Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of this lecture is to get to know the developments of important ideas and concepts in the history of physics, starting with antiquity up to the 20th century, taking into account the participation of women and with a special focus on physics at the University of Vienna.
The course adopts the extensive graphic and pictorial material of Franz Sachslehner, the long-time head of the historical collection of the Faculty of Physics and of this lecture.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral examination, approx. 20 minutes.

The minimum requirement for a positive grade is basic knowledge/answers to questions relating to the content of the course.

The contents of the lecture are examined.
